The Providence Parks + Recreation Department acquired vacant parcels adjacent to an active playground in this Elmwood neighborhood. Visionary neighbors sought to transform this land into passive park space to engage a larger user group. Gardner + Gerrish developed plans to include gently sloping pathways surrounding a biomorphic earthen berm. Sustainable elements include striped log retaining/seat wall, native boulder constellations, rain garden to capture stormwater and native vegetation; to both attract wildlife and provide edible landscape and educational community amenity. Plants include fruiting trees, shrubs and ground covers as well as large shade trees for this open site.
