A thesis project comes alive. After years of researching golf courses on landfillls across the country one of my first project architect jobs was Sassamon. And since I lived two towns away, I was on site every other day. What a learning experience it was. Sassamon is what I call a minimalist design. There were so many factors to contend with: a capped landfill shaped to provide green sites and corridors of play, one of the main Boston metropolitan water lines (large enough to drive a jeep through) and a modest budget. Many doubted where an executive course could be viable. almost 20 years later the course is doing well and has a great metrowest following and tremendous youth program.
